QUETTA: Balochistan’s Cabinet has decided to draft a legislation to protect the political, economic and social rights of the people of Gwadar in view of the on-going development in the port city.

The cabinet has formed a parliamentary committee to prepare a legal framework and propose recommendations for the legislation. This was decided in view of the reservations expressed by the Baloch nationalists and other political parties about the possible demographic change that might occur, after the Gwadar port becomes functional. The meeting was held on Tuesday and was chaired by Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri.

The spokesman of the Balochistan Government, Anwarul Haq Kakar, briefing the press after the cabinet meeting, said CM Zehri will head the committee while the parliamentary leaders of all political parties will be included in the committee, including the opposition leader of the Balochistan assembly.
Kakar said that the committee would consult all the stake-holders, including political parties who were expressing their reservations about the rights of the inhabitants of Gwadar.
