The joint coordination committee of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has held its fifth meeting in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi.
The meeting was jointly hosted by Wang Xiaotao, deputy director of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, and Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistani minister for Planning and Development.
The two sides discussed cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, energy and security. The committee agreed to set up 25 industrial zones in different areas of Pakistan and the formation of an industrial group.
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a major project in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. It links Pakistan’s Gwadar Port and Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with highways, railways and pipelines.
